Honestly, I lost track of Bonobo.
Was a big fan when he was on Tru Thoughts and his earlier Ninja Tune releases, we just separated paths. The Erykah Badu song on the b-side peaked my interest, and I left impressed by Bonobo’s “professional” sound. He’s no bedroom producer anymore. “First Fires” featuring Grey Reverend is masterfully executed, every element thoughtfully placed. The Badu track “Heaven For Sinner” would not sound out of place on one her own albums. Bonobo adds so much depth, layering vocals and instrumentation over a hip-hop drum kit. Instrumentals for both, recommended.
