R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series has been topping bestseller lists since 1992, and the literary franchise made a big-screen debut last year with Jack Black playing a triple role and imaginary demons roaming through IRL Madison, Delaware. The horror-comedy film is accompanied by a fitting score from Danny Elfman, whose impressive resume includes working with Tim Burton for Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, and Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. In addition, he composed the theme to an animated TV series that you might have heard of: THE SIMPSONS. It’s the duality of the music that’s spread over 2 green and grey vinyl that’s most exciting about this record. Elfman is able to capture the gloomy, dreary nature of the horror side of the film, all the while keeping the music light and perky enough to complement the comedy in it. A true testament to why he’s been one of the most versatile and established in Hollywood!
