Chicago surf-rock trio’s third studio album! Despite their sparse instrumentation – one guitar, a bass, a floor tom, snare, and a tambourine – Dehd excels at creating a reverberant, Spector-esque wall of sound with nods to post-punk, dreampop, and the ‘60s Nashville scene. Consisting of Emily Kempf on lead vocals and bass, Jason Balla on guitar, and Eric McGrady on drums, the trio is a culmination of longtime Chicago indie rockers who’ve played in acts such as Lala Lala and Ne-Hi. Flower Of Devotion is noticeably higher in fidelity (and much catchier) than their previous release Water, which was also put out on NYC indie label Fire Talk. Kempf’s signature husky vibrato shines on tracks like “Loner,” “Nobody,” and “No Time” while Balla’s baritone perfectly compliments her in callback on album opener “Desire.” 13 tracks on clear colored vinyl.
