Music From Memory #1. By now Labheads should already know to pick up any MFM release on sight as your are always guaranteed quality (as well as rarity if that’s your thing). Liquid Diamonds snuck under our radar back in 2013, but luckily they’ve kept it in print for those that missed it. The release is actually a compilation of several private press releases from the ocean-loving Rhode Island synth maestro Leon Lowman. Mostly recorded in the early 80’s (and dedicated to several women he was trying to woo at the time), the tracks combine easy-going synths with a swanky laid back funk for beachside chillin’ or late night cruisin’. Check the vibe on the breezy album opener “Bumpin’ on Sunset,” a cover of the Wes Montgomery classic, the lazy Sunday vibe of “Open,” the funky “Friends,” “Fluorescent Funk,” “The Want,” and of course, the jazzy title track “Liquid Diamonds.” Top notch stuff and an incredible way to kick off an incredible label! Recommended.
