A beautiful 2003 album from Kenny Dixon Jr. reissued on Peacefrog Records. Here’s the og Lab review: “When I listen to this, I can’t help but picture the most eclectic Detroit band that’s playing some smooth soul-jazz one minute, then turning out some hard dance sounds the next. They open up with the jazzy triplet of “Entrance, People,” and “Back,” then work the mf out with “Liveinla 1998.” They interlude, lounge style, with “PBC,” followed with some soul—”Shine.” The show reaches a climax with the odd, but intriguing, 10-minute title track, then they bring it back down with the dark minimal techno track “On My Way Home” and the uplifting endnote “Sweet Yesterday.” But really, it’s just Moody.” A timeless body of work doused in Moodymann flavor, highly recommended.
