Permanent Vacation, Future Classic, and Modular occupy the same space in my brain. Whenever I see a new release on a list, I have to listen, and I usually end up being pleasantly surprised. They always seem to be one step ahead of other indies. On this particular record, Munich’s Permanent Vacation introduces us to Dublin’s New Jackson, whose previous most notable release was a remix of The XX on Pional’s Hivern. Instantly, this 4 track EP shows us Jackson’s super-wide range. It’s hard to pinpoint the style as it shifts from electronica to house to new disco, but you can gather that he’s your classic studio head. You also get a sense he’s got a hoard of vintage gear, every track has an extra layer of texture that only dusty electronics can deliver. Great illustrated cover with red vinyl to boot. Recommended.
