Long out of print recording from the High Priestess of Soul, Nina Simone. A Very Rare Evening was originally recorded during 1969 concert in Germany that included Weldon Irvine on organ, Don Allias on drums and jazz legend Gene Perla on bass. Simone turns in stunning performances of “Ain’t Got No / I Got Life” and The Beatles’ “Revolution,” and an explosive rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Save Me.” But the standout of the set may be her take on Randy Newman’s “I Think It’s Going To Rain Today.” She stays true to the outsider spirit of Newman’s original while adding an extra dose of drama as only she can. Eight tracks in all. Released by Tidal Waves Music on black vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve.
