Schmoove sounds from SF’s Pillowtalk by way of the always tasteful Wolf+Lamb label. For the Far From Heaven EP, Pillowtalk take influence from boogie and grown and sexy r&b for an eclectic excursion into retro electronic soul. Tracks like “Heaven’s Gate” and “Weekend Girl” take those funky baselines and squiggly synths you love about old 80’s r&b cuts (think S.O.S. Band or Midnight Star) and put ’em on something new, complete with matching vocal stylings. On “Street Walker” they up the tempo for more bump and hustle on the dancefloor, while the title track, “Far From Home” is more of a house-y affair in line with most other W+L releases. If you dig Chromeo, do yourself a factor and check this out.
