Berlin’s Recondite (aka Lorenz Brunner) returns to Acid Test. The producer’s 2012 debut for the label, On Acid, was filled with languid 303 lines that drifted of into space. The puny titled Placid continues where its predecessor left off, providing plenty of acidic excursion filled with depth and variety. The rhythms are slow and spacious, giving Recondite a wide open space to explore the subtler moments within his machines. It’s a patient take on acid where texture and tone are brought to the forefront. The results are particularly enjoyable when he teams up with Tale Of Us on “Sequenze,” a foreboding track with distant chords that slowly grow over time. “Pass Up” is bolstered by its exceptional melody and retro drum programming, while the title track is another outstanding moment. Placid is a must for anyone who’s been digging Tin Man, Rødhåd and anything that Acid Test has been releasing.
