Stix Records is back with their second installment of Disco Reggae! A spin off of France’s Favorite Recordings, Stix has been pursuing the meeting of dance music with classic reggae techniques. Disco Reggae Volume 2 picks up where the first volume left off, giving us a mix of older disco hits and contemporary classics all reworked and recorded in a reggae influenced style. Label regulars Taggy Matcher, 7 Samuraï, Mato, and John Milk tackle popular songs like Herbie Hancock’s “Watermelon Man” and the so of the moment hit “Happy” from Pharrell, along with more obscure cuts from Mr. Day, Lee McDonald, Lucas Arruda and The Joubert Singers (“Stand On The Word”). These versions exist somewhere between Lee Perry’s Black Ark Studio and the sounds coming out of Compass Point in the early 80s. Perfect summertime soundtrack material.
