Texas-based band Surfaces consists of Colin Padalecki and Forrest Frank. The duo’s purpose is clear: “our music exists to spread love and positivity across the world.” Where The Light Is is the sophomore album from the group, and it’s an easy and uplifting listen, with Padalecki and Frank seamlessly blending hip-hop, jazz, reggae, funk, and pop influences to craft feel-good songs. Highlights include “Sunday Best,” a piano driven number rounded by a tight trap bassline and an earworm of a hook, of “Grace,” a shimmering synth-pop winner that showcases Surfaces’ breezy songwriting well. Also check out: “Where the Light Is,” “A Beautiful DAy,” and “Shine On Top.”
