Fifth studio album from English goth rockers The Cure. The Top was originally recorded between 1983 and 1984, and was written and recorded primarily by Robert Smith. Smith was working simultaneously with Siouxsie and the Banshees on their Hyæna album and had just finished Blue Sunshine for the one-off project The Glove with Banshees’ guitarist Steven Severin. The wildly experimental The Top helped to lay the foundation for albums like The Head On The Door and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, but shows signs of being recorded under stress and over-indulgence. Smith explores pop melodies and world instrumentation on an album that is ultimately an imperfect but necessary step in the evolution of the band. Ten tracks in all. Released by Fiction Records on 180 gram vinyl housed in gatefold sleeve.
