Fifth studio album from UK mod rockers The Jam. Sound Affects was originally recorded in 1980 and was a return to the basics for the band after the slick production of Setting Sons. Paul Weller’s lyrics moved on from the story telling style of earlier releases towards a more abstract mode. The band drew inspiration from Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall and the Beatles’ Revolver, the most obvious of which is the “Taxman” aping bass line of the song “Start!”. The album contains some of the band’s catchiest moments in the aforementioned “Start!” along with “That’s Entertainment” and “Man in the Corner Shop.” Eleven tracks in all. Released by Polydor on 180 gram vinyl.
