“Racing through my brain, pulsing through my vein.” The question remains: Is “There She Goes” about heroin or unrequited love? But who cares, really. This 1990 debut album from Liverpool’s The La’s has certainly stood the test of time, and their ability to combine classic British rock and punk attitudes w/ catchy hooks and guitar pop sensibilities simply begs the question—why couldn’t they have stayed together and put out more albums? Even with only one studio full-length (a lot of compilation albums are available, though), The La’s impact on Britpop is undeniable (Oasis, among others, cites the group as an influence), and tracks like “Feelin’, “Timeless Melody,” “Way Out,” and the aforementioned smash hit continue to be enjoyed by fans.
