Sometimes a record stops you dead in your tracks. When I first heard the 909 side of this one I knew we had to get it. For those not familiar, Todd Osborn has been a Detroit mainstay for years. His released material through Ghostly International and Spectral Sound, collaborated with Tadd Mullinix, ran the legendary Dubplate Pressure shop, and produced everything from deep house to drum & bass. For fellow Detroit based producer Jared Wilson’s 7777 label he drops two cuts that are odes to the Roland machines they’re named after. “303” is a bubbling acid track that exudes a rawness few are able to wrest from the machine. What really got me though was the new wavy house of “909.” Amid an overdriven bass line and the sounds of the aforementioned drum machine two synth leads battle it out for supremacy. It’s the perfect track for those times the crowd needs an injection of energy. Plays at 45.
