Tom Misch cut his teeth as a South London beatmaker inspired by Dilla, Madlib, James Blake, & the likes. For Geography, the multi-talented artist’s debut, Misch gets behind the mic and shows off his beautiful voice (he is nice on the guitar also). Largely self-produced, Misch pulls from hip-hop, jazz, & electronica to create a funky, retro-indebted sound, and his r&b-influenced singing completes the cipher. “Lost in Paris” is a bright mid-tempo jam featuring GoldLink, and “South of the River” is an electro-swing ode to his home ground. Also check out “Movie,” a soothing slow jam, and “It Runs Through Me,” a loose, riff-driven number featuring De La Soul.
