Tony Allen’s first solo album repressed! As the rhythmic force behind Fela Kuti’s in the 70’s, there is no doubt that Allen was an integral to the creation of the Afro-Beat sound. Originally released in 1975 on the private Soundworkshop imprint, Jealousy documents the first time Allen had a chance to rehearse his own compositions with the Afrika 70 band. The result are two Afro-Beat gems of the highest caliber – “Jealousy” and “Hustler” – both of which have been out of print for years and get a proper import pressing thanks to Kindred Spirits. Essential listening for the afro-beat aficionado.
