Deluxe reissue of UGK’s classic third album. Before Pimp C (RIP) and Bun B were guesting on Jay-Z records and “Sippin’ on Some Syrup” with Three 6 Mafia, they were releasing instant classics like 1996’s Ridin’ Dirty. They fought hard for Southern Rap and helped to put Houston on the map. The two rappers are legends by now, but it was songs like “One Day” and “Hi Life” that earned them their place amongst rap music’s royalty. Primarily produced by Pimp C, the songs draw from funk, soul and gospel, and make use of the chopped and screwed techniques popularized by DJ Screw. You can hear it in the heavy bass of “3 In The Morning” and the screwed chorus of “Diamonds & Wood.” With tracks like “Murder,” “Pinky Ring,” and the title cut it’s no surprise that Ridin’ Dirty would be UGK’s best selling album. 20 years from its release the album is a certifiable hip hop classic.
