The long-awaited follow up to the excellent In Ghost Colours from Australian dance-pop maestros Cut Copy. With the feel-good, Fleetwood Mac-referencing (some say Men Down Under, some say both, you decide) “Take Me Over” setting the tone as the lead single, tracks like “Need You Now,” “Where I’m Going,”Pharaohs & Pyramids,” and “Alisa” fuse Dan Whitford’s optimistic, hopeful lyrics with bouncy, synth-washed instrumentals. The overall sound is an updated mixture of new wave, indie-rock, and nu disco, with the album leaning more heavily toward pop-oriented song-writing in comparison to Ghost. In addition being floor-fillers, other selections from the release – “Corner Of The Sky,” “Blink And You’ll Miss A Revolution,” and more – are fun to listen to, and for fans of lighthearted synth-dance-pop, Zonoscope should be a real treat. 2-LP, gatefold cover featuring lyrics, recommended.
