The third full-length from K Ishibashi AKA Kishi Bashi is a decidedly more pop effort, and the virtuoso violinist puts together a deeply personal and falsetto-filled body of work that explores relationship issues, forgiveness, and other unsavory-yet-real facets of life against a ironically bright, melodic musical backdrop. Working with producer Chris Taylor (Grizzly Bear), engineer Pat Dillet (Angelique Kidjo, David Byrne), and drummer Matt Chamberlain (Morrissey, Fional Apple, Of Montreal), relies on electronic sounds for Sonderlust, which is another departure from his earlier works, and the highlights of the LP include: “Can’t Let Go, Juno,” “Hey Big Star,” “Why Don’t You Answer Me,” and “m’lover.”
