Classic dub/deejay album from 1972. Cloak and Dagger finds Lee Perry hitting his crossover groove with cleanly-produced, vibrant tracks with a hint of American soul and those beloved Upsetter quirks. Far from generic, each track bubbles with individual character, mostly rub-a-dub with a few choice Scratch vocals. You’ll recognize some alternate mixes of familiar favorites (a few new Blackboard Jungle versions). Originally released in Jamaica (a rare run of 300 copies with no cover) in 1972, reissued in the UK with wicked cover art, an updated track listing and slightly sped-up tempo in 1973; this Clocktower pressing contains rare dub / deejay / alternate mixes by King Tubby not found on the original. 14 tracks in all. Essentially Upsetter, recommended.
