Our Girl is a Brighton trio fronted by Soph Nathan (also of The Big Moon), and Stranger Today is the band’s debut album. Produced by Bill Ryder-Jones (The Coral), the group channels its DIY energy into crafting a crisp studio project, and the ethereal melodies, fuzzed-out guitar strums and vocals harmonies, set against a wall of reverb, complete its sound with much style and attitude. Check out “Sub Rosa” and “I Really Like It,” but for a tune that’s slightly different from others on the record, listen to “In My Head” (little less on guitar, more bass & drum). “Being Around” is another highlight (Nathan describes the song as one that “looses us up/eases us into a set”), and the title track/opener is a rush of excitement.
