Sinkane reaches new heights on Mean Love. Following up on 2012’s excellent Mars album, Sinkane returns to DFA for a deeper, psychedelic affair. Stylistically the album is nearly night and day compared to his previous. While the inherent polyrhythmic afro beat backbone still resides, it is the complex song structure, writing, and genre jumps that take the front seat. Having recently completed a major milestone in his career, music directing for the incomparable William Onyeabor, the maturity and progression shows in his own work. Both vintage and futuristic at the same time, how many albums do you know that can seamlessly blend Country, Soul, Sudanese Pop, Funk, & Rock at the same time? Very limited edition of 80 copies pressed on clear coke bottle green vinyl, blind assortment. Recommended.
