Anticipated debut album from London duo Tender. James Cullen and Dan Cobb take on synth pop with sophistication and control, with “global rhythms,” polished sub work, and shimmering chords contrasting the melancholic theme— a “young, cold, urban, lonely and an intrinsically modern” look at love. Although dark and full of wistful emotion, Cullen and Cobb manage keep Modern Addiction accessible and charming, and you can really let the album rock in the background or get immersed in it. Check out “Nadir,” “Erode,” “Machine,” and “Illuminate.”
