Stephen Chbosky’s film adaptation of his coming of age novel was heartfelt and sincere. The film’s soundtrack, filled with early 90s alternative rock classics, only added to its authenticity and emotional impact. Along with music from The Samples, Lancaster, PA’s The Innocence Mission, and Galaxie 500, there are some older classics as well. Sonic Youth’s “Daydream Nation,” New Order’s “Temptation,” the Smiths’ “Asleep,” and David Bowie’s “Heroes” are some of the many highlights here. It’s as if Chbosky put together the perfect mixtape for the film.
